Mining accommodation and services company MAC Services Group is to open a manufacturing plant in Adelaide to cash in on the state's booming resources sector.
South Australian Premier Mike Rann welcomed the move on Tuesday, as the company detailed plans to establish the multi-million-dollar facility at Edinburgh Park, in Adelaide's north.
"We all know we are on the cusp of great mining riches and SA can expect to see many more companies establish themselves here over the next few years to take advantage of the forthcoming boom," Mr Rann said.
"This is a successful Australian company investing in South Australia to create a local presence for the future needs of mining companies such as BHP Billiton and others."
The MAC Services Group supplies accommodation services to the mining and resources sector as well as the construction and tourism industries.
Executive chairman Kevin Maloney said the new facility — due to open on March 1 — would build transportable houses and other accommodation facilities that could be transported to remote mining regions.
"We see this new facility as a future hub for MAC's ongoing expansion servicing Australia's flourishing resources sector," he said.
The new manufacturing facility is expected to generate about 100 local jobs and, through the company's local purchasing policy, should pump up to $25 million a year into the SA economy. It will allow MAC to almost quadruple its annual production from about 400 standard buildings at present to about 1500.
"The South Australian resources sector is currently experiencing one of the biggest booms in the state's long mining history and, similarly, the national resources industry is also very robust," Mr Maloney said.
"From our new base we will have more direct access to the growing markets in SA, Western Australia and the Northern Territory."
