MacTiernan names Pilbara housing construction shortlist

Western Australian construction companies, Pindan Pty Ltd, HWL Building Co, Will Construct and Design and Rapley Wilkinson Pty Ltd, have been shortlisted to provide new homes in the Pilbara, Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan has announced.

Six building and construction companies have been short listed to fast track the delivery of new homes in the Pilbara.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced the companies were selected following a national Expressions of Interest process run by LandCorp.

The six companies are: Pindan Pty Ltd (WA), The Mac Services Group (NSW), Origen Architects (QLD), HWL Building Co (WA), Will Construct and Design (WA) and Rapley Wilkinson Pty Ltd (WA).

"This process has identified companies capable of building on LandCorp's significantly accelerated program of land releases across the Pilbara to meet demand driven by Western Australian's resources sector," Ms MacTiernan said.

"The EOI program has also sought to attract companies that focus on alternative building techniques, materials and designs suited to the demanding Pilbara climate."

LandCorp is facilitating two small expo events to connect individual and corporate land buyers with the selected builders in:

"The Pilbara building industry is under considerable pressure resulting in longer build-times and higher construction costs, so the State Government has taken this proactive approach to meet the demand," Ms MacTiernan said.

New developments by LandCorp worth an estimated $860 million are being developed in Port Hedland, Karratha, Newman, Onslow and Tom Price and will result in the delivery of more than 1,700 new lots over the next four years.

Major developments include:

LandCorp's works associated with developments in the Pilbara comprises approximately $260 million in civil works and $600 million in associated construction activity.

Ms MacTiernan said the EOI is an ongoing process that aims to support regional economic and social development and LandCorp expects to appoint more companies to take on this work in the Pilbara.
